So my wife and I attended the opening of a new restaurant in town on Wednesday night. I let my hair down a bit and had a few drinks including 2 red wines, a glass of champagne, a cocktail (that my wife got me and I have no idea what it was) and a large beer. This doesn’t sound to bad right? I don’t think so either but a combination of drinking, snacking on hors d’oeuvres (including pork belly which was fantastic), and getting to bed late (midnight) on a work night all led to me feeling pretty low both mentally and physically the next day. It was a good reminder of the consequences of making bad choices!
With that said, I”m certainly not the fun police and we do have to enjoy ourselves every now and then so the key is to choose the occasion that you do that. You can have a few beers or wines at home any time right? So rather than make that a habit, choose to splurge a little at a special event that will be memorable and make the calories (and following day lows) all worth it. And then be sure to get right back on track so you don’t fall back into bad habits. We need to have these occasional off days to keep our sanity and also to serve as a reminder that we are being awesome the other 95% of the time!
