I hadn’t been intending on doing a challenge this month but last Monday I inadvertently went a whole day without coffee. Well, I got to about 4pm and realised I hadn’t had a coffee and didn’t want to have a coffee late in the day. I decided to go the rest of the day without coffee. While I like coffee, I don’t drink too much of it because I’m aware of the affect it has on anxiety levels. In the past if I haven’t had coffee for 12 hours I actually got a headache. This time though that didn’t happen. So I thought, why not go a week without coffee and give my adrenal glands a break?
Lately I’ve been experiencing chest discomfort and tightness whenever I spend too much time in front of the computer and concentrate for extended periods without a break. The adrenal glands being over worked can cause this. I read about the effects coffee has on the adrenal glands so thought this would be an awesome challenge to undertake! I’m fascinated by the function the adrenal glands play and I am currently researching to write a blog all about the adrenal glands, adrenal fatigue and how to give them a break. I believe I am currently suffering from mild adrenal fatigue and certainly have several symptoms of it, the major one being the chest tightness so I will be blogging about my journey to reduce and eliminate my symptoms.
So here I am 10 days later with not a single cup of coffee – woohoo! When I hit the 7 day mark, I decided to really give my body a break by doing a 1 day fast – you can read more about fasting in my blog here.
After not having had coffee for several days I feel less jittery, more relaxed and less anxious feelings. I’m also not having the highs and lows that go with quick caffeine fixes. Its interesting that even though I completed the 7 day challenge, I didn’t feel compelled to have a cup of coffee. Going forward I will treat coffee as a treat rather than a necessity. I do love my Nespresso Pixie coffee machine at home so I think I will enjoy the coffee even more now if it’s only the occasional cup.
So how about you? Are you addicted to coffee? Do you experience the highs and lows that go with it? Do you feel anxious or high strung? If so, I encourage you to do my caffeine free 7 day challenge and write about your experience below. And of course no caffeine means avoid any caffeine loaded drinks like V and Red Bull too!
